Escape Hatch: The Recap

Opening night was absolutely fantastical. The first of many wonderful friends to come visit was el mero mero Paul Saucido, taking time out of his busy moving 'n shaking schedule to stop by. The Cine Las Americas crew was out in full effect as were the faithful leaders of Cinema Asia, and of course there was a healthy dose of teachers and other lovelies. Javi gave me my first red dot --of my career AND for the evening-- followed by Sophia and José and later Joel. Now what my friends are doing paying inflated prices for pieces of work that they could easily scam from me for free, I don't know, but god bless 'em! I met lots of folks and did an impressive amount of schmoozing, but we'll see if anything substantial comes out of all that. Bottom line, I felt extraordinarily supported by my friends and family (mom and dad came up from San Anto on Saturday) so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU all for being there. I would have peed in my pants out of nervousness without you =P

The after party at Nelson's was also loads of fun... thanks to all the random musicians who showed up as well as to our gracious host.

some final shout-outs: rachelle, the rockingest curator of them all... cesar, mr. enthusiasm himself... rosa, for your insight and constructive criticism.. you were there in spirit! and last but not least, bobby and nelson for helping with all the last-minute details, especially naming and pricing pieces. i can't believe it's taken me this long to take advantage of your collective creative juices! =P

Pump Project throws old school and new wave together in one venue. Five diverse artists use both traditional printmaking and computer-based processes to unite under the enormous banner of graphic art/design. Escape Hatch is a "state of the union" show of an art form in flux: high on the speed of the digital era, but yearning to remain the handcrafted industry it has been for centuries. Artists and designers Paul Fucik (Decoder Ring Design Concern), Marie Garza (Coronado Studios), Noreen Naseem, Elise Pelletier (Coronado Studios), and Dave Starsign offer a snapshot of the revolution. Curator: Rachelle Rouse (Shady Tree Studios/AIGA member).
